Verdict: Go see it.
If you are not normally a fan of scary movies, I suggest you go see 1408. Interesting camera angles, terrific plot and character development, it was like watching a book. Rather than attempt to gross you the hell out, 1408 gets into your head and stirs it all around with a big ol’ Creepy-Stick. The whole thing was pretty much a one man act by Cusack, and he pulled it off with flying colors.
My paltry attempt at a movie review cannot possibly do it justice, so just go see it and I promise you’ll be glad you did.

I went to the Rhode Island Air Show in Quonset over the weekend. I got some pretty sweet shots and an awful sunburn. But it was worth it, I think.

I’ve been kicking an idea around in my head for some time now.
I would like to interview people. Average people. Just to get a feel for what they do every day. A mechanic, construction worker, mailman, butcher, etc. I’d take pictures too. This idea began to gnaw away at my brain a lot more since listening to the MetaFilter podcast with ColdChef. I love stuff like that. People just talking about themselves, what they do. My favorite genres of book are biographies and memoirs. I love documentaries. I’ve even gone so far as to keep a little notepad document full of minibiographies that take place on MetaFilter and MetaChat; anything that reveals a little snippet of who that person is, or what that person has experienced. Here’s a good example.
I think there’s a difference between conducting an interview over the internet and actually approaching someone and asking if you can interview them, and spending time with that person throughout their day. That’s part of the reason I doubt I’ll ever do it. It’s odd. I can barely work up the nerve to make an appointment to get my hair cut, or get a prescription from my doctor. However, I could have sat for hours and interrogated the hell out of Justin if he had actually been allowed to reveal any information, and I’d have no trouble asking someone who’s telling me about themselves more questions. It’s the process of approaching the person and saying “Hey I want to interview you!” that freaks me the hell out.
I guess this is just one of those ideas that will stay in my head and I will regret not doing later in life.

After much searching, I believe I have found the inspiration for one of BioShock’s Big Daddy suits.

The Carmagnolle suit.

A fair amount of artistic license was taken, of course, but the influence is obvious.
On that note, I’d like to thank Jonathan Case of SeaFreak for providing me with a high resolution image of his BioShock Tshirt design, which I have used to make a wonderful desktop background, as well as a background for my Twitter page too.
Which reminds me! I went to a MetaFilter meetup a couple days ago, where the following took place:

::I hear snippets of conversation between Justin (pictured above) and Alan… my ears perk up when I catch the title BioShock::
Me: Wait say what?
Justin: I’m the something something something (my memory is terrible) for Bioshock.
Me: …Can I shake your hand?
For the next several minutes, Justin tells me a lot of what he can about what its like to work on BioShock. I’m sitting there, pretty much drinking in every word, and I notice Jessamyn holding up a piece of paper next to me.

It’s sad/funny because it’s true.

If you haven’t seen Knocked Up yet, go see it. It’s funny without being constantly sophomoric, it’s touching, it’s sad, it’s great. I’ve never been in a movie that had that many reactions from the audience, like. all the time. Usually you see a movie and everyone is quiet unless something outrageously funny happens or someone gets hit in the nuts or someone jumps out and scares the hell out of you all. It’s something completely different when someone gets unfairly chewed out on screen and you along with about a hundred or so others all say “aw…” at the same time. This is a feel good movie, no doubt about it. Please go see this movie. I promise you will not regret it.

So I was driving to work the other day, and I stop behind a line of cars who are in turn stopped at a stop sign (stop stop stop).
I realized something wasn’t qutie right when I didn’t begin to move again. I counted to 30 in my head. 30 seconds is a long time to be behind a stop sign, when you think about it, as you normally only stay for a fifteenth of that. All I could make out from my postition was brief glimpses of cars going by, making a left turn from the opposite direction ahead of us.
“I have never seen this many cars in a row go through stop signs before,” I thought to myself.
Piggybacking stopsigns is a fairly common occurance, in RI at least; it’s when you closely follow the car in front of you after he has stopped a stop sign. Many people think that stopping behind a car at a stopsign counts as a stop. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t. It happened to me today, in fact. I was on my way home from work and came to a four-way stop.

It looked a little something like this.-^ (more…)
